My students need these carts and shovels to work in our Project Ulupono project based garden. They will be transporting materials from two different worksites and will need the carts to assist with that.

My Students
K. H. S., Project Ulupono’s mission is to provide a challenging but meaningful education for all students who otherwise, have experienced failure within a traditional academic setting.
The Project Ulupono program is able to address students needs by integrating curriculum that focuses on skills needed to enter the workforce and/or attend a post high school institution.
About 80% of the students commute from an outlying area of 112 square mile to the campus. School data shows that the percentage of students who receive free and reduced priced meals continues to increase each year. Due to the type of community we have our school is eligible for federal funding for free lunch and transportation this academic school year. Despite the fact that most students are from low income high poverty status and community challenges.
My Project
My students need a non-traditional academic setting to grasp their attention and focus their learning. Many of them have not been successful in the traditional school setting.
Project Ulupono accommodates the needs of these students by focusing on project based learning.
This school year Project Ulupono will create a school garden. Students will be in charge of planning and carrying out the building of the garden and will also be in charge of the care-taking and upkeep of the garden. Students will gain an understanding of the connection of what they are learning in the classroom to real life application. Students will need these supplies to transport gardening materials and supplies between two different garden sites. The carts will also assist in the spreading of the dirt that will be used as the foundation of our garden. The tools will support student learning in our Ulupono garden.
