I teach at a Title I public school. The majority of my school receives free or reduced-priced lunches. My students are eager learners. They are always engaged with the lessons and activities I present and often ask for more!
Second grade is a pivotal year in primary schools.
There is so much new learning that takes place. We work on new math skills, spelling patterns, writing a story with at least eight sentences, and reading growth is a large part of second grade expectations. A favorite time of day is when the students get a little independence with stations. I work with my students in small groups for guided reading and guided math. They especially LOVED guided math. I implement it three times a week and they caught on quickly to the schedule. By the end of the year, when I’ve finished guided math, they begged me to start it back up!
My students loved the closeness and attention they received during these small group times. Personally, I enjoyed it too!
My Project
I am an educator that is always wanting to learn more ways to improve my students engagement and learning.
Just like students are always learning, a teacher should always learn new strategies to improve him/herself.
These texts will allow me to use researched based strategies that work to help improve my students learning, test scores, and outcomes. A part of my weekly planning routine is pulling out professional development books and using current research. I am lacking in some areas that I noticed my students need extra assistance. These texts will allow me to reach my students in new ways.
