This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These books and materials will help in my dual role as Social Studies Coach and Aztec Dance Instructor. I plan to use the books listed as launching pads for professional development discussions about the social and cultural implications of social studies.
Some of the books listed here will also help develop the foundational knowledge in my Music History of Latin America class, which focuses specifically on the tradition of Aztec Dance and its role in preserving Mexican Indigenous identity.
I hope to use these to foster conversations with my colleagues about indigeneity, as it relates to the new ethnic studies requirements for LAUSD.
