Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is full of beautiful second grade bilingual students (Spanish/English). They are so excited about returning to school and are ready to learn! As is true for children across the country, my students will be returning to school under extraordinary circumstances; but they are returning with the curiosity, eagerness, energy, and joy that is innate in all seven year olds!

My goal is to create learning opportunities grounded in scholarly behaviors, empathy, and self-care.

My students all come from low-income households and are English Learners. Although I must take into consideration the challenges faced by this demographic, they are not defined by these characteristics. My students parents want the same thing for their children as any other parent in any other demographic....for their child to be provided with a quality education that will prepare them for success in the future. I am grateful for the opportunity to teach my wonderful students!

My Project

As you are probably aware, the pandemic created learning gaps that we are working hard to overcome. The classroom resources we are provided with are mostly at grade level and are therefore at a frustration level for too many students. We want students to engage in productive struggle rather than frustration because learning while frustrated is an act of futility. We have to work from our students strengths which means meeting them at their level so that they can make quicker progress. Teachers Pay Teachers provides us with many resources at many levels that we can utilize to differentiate learning experiences for our students. In addition, with the ongoing student absences due to quarantines, it also provides opportunities for us to send work home with students while they are in quarantine.
