Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my first grade classroom are 30 first graders, who I consider to be the most unique group of learners I have encountered thus far. These children are considered high-risk children because of their socio-economic status and their ethnicity, but when I look into their eyes, I see little ones who have an infinite love for learning.
The children in my first grade classroom are brilliant individuals, who are eager to learn, and their most amazing quality is that they are always willing to go above and beyond for one another, which usually means offering a helping hand, a hug, or a kind word.
My school is a place, which is highly focused on academics, but also works with our students to learn to love one another, to pursue difficult tasks, to be truthful, and to reflect on all of their choices. My school is a place in which children are encouraged to take risks in a safe and nurturing environment in which they will be able to learn and thrive. My school is a place in which we believe that all children can and will learn regardless of who they are and where they come from.
My Project
These bibliotherapy books address a range of topics, from acceptance in the classroom, divorce, feelings, behavior, diversity, tolerance, and much more. These books will help students find an avenue to share experiences that they might be going through at home.
When students can identify with a character that is struggling or going through a similar situation, they are more willing to open up about their experiences and in turn, we can work together in order to find solutions to their problems or provide some clarity and understanding.
This will make a difference in student learning because once their socio-emotional problems and struggles are addressed, they will be better able to focus, build friendships, and learn to their fullest potential without any distractions, and hopefully with a clear heart and mind.
