Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my classroom are 7th-grade, special education students. They have intellectual, sensory, and emotional impairments that are aided by inclusion in a small classroom setting. My students struggle with mathematics concepts, and this year our goals are to build confidence in our foundational math skills and to become more engaged with our learning.
My students work together as a community based on their learning styles and interests.
They work very hard, and a big issue for them is the retention of topics. I am always looking for new and interesting ways to help them to thrive and remember different topics. We are a part of a large school that celebrates inquisitive learning. All of my students are working hard towards high school and college by relating all of their topics to real-world situations.
My Project
I want to support and supply my students with INCENTIVES and REWARDS for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support, reaching self-created goals, hard work, perseverance, academic accomplishments, and attendance through positive behavior intervention supports.
Providing them with individualized incentives based on their individualized education program goals and academic achievements is important to me and will allow them to improve social, emotional, behavioral, and academic outcomes.
These incentives will allow me to connect with them beyond the classroom and reward them for their efforts during an unusual time. For example, for students who are staying on top of their work and exhibiting model behavior online, setting a goal, and offering them an incentive would give them something to look forward to and can motivate them. Other ways to support students through incentives are acknowledging honor roll, most improved, excellence in a specific area, and students who exhibit leadership qualities. Overall, these items will be used as incentives to reward students for academic accomplishments and to promote positive behaviors in schools.
The effective educator speaks the language of his students and knows their needs beyond the classroom. We cannot let this time pass without doing everything that is possible to ensure that we are creating opportunities to engage and support students.
With your support, I will be able to provide multiple students with rewards through setting individualized academic goals. Nearly ALL of my students come from low-income households so when it comes to health and wellness, the definition of wellness is very vague in their world.
