As school budgets dwindle, can you guess what my classroom lacks? Copy paper! It seems like something so simple, but when dollars are tight, copy paper is hard to come by!
My students enjoy working with technology and are very proud to share their work with classmates, teachers, and parents.
Many come from disadvantaged homes which do not even have computers. During the school day is their only opportunity to gain experience with word processing skills, critical for their futures.
My Project
Our request is fairly simple, we are requesting six cases of copy paper that can be used in our computer lab and in our copy machines.
1) Students will publish written compositions that go through the complete writing process (just like real authors). Going from first drafts through the editing / revising process, through to publishing takes a lot of paper to do right.
2) Students will print PowerPoint presentations created in the computer lab. With so many of our students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, they simply don't have access to computers at home to share their technology work. Printing out presentations to bring home helps us all to engage families in the process.
3) Students will have paper available to download enrichment activities (including problem solving worksheets) to bring home with them. This extra practice can really make a difference for those students interested in truly challenging themselves
Without copy paper, the products produced by students would be limited.
In this case students lose out on a valuable piece of their education. In ever evolving world of technology it is imperative that these students have the supplies needed to be competitive with other schools that might not face the same monetary challenges.
