Moving into a new-to-us building and transforming a middle school library into an elementary library has been a challenge. The shelving and space was completely different and considerably bigger so it required a bunch of changes to make it work for our young readers.\r\n\r\nThe organization materials provided in this project have helped so much! I now have bookends for nearly every shelf in the library! Our new magazine holders allowed me to clearly and neatly label the picture book section to make it easier for kids to find what they need. They were so excited when I first introduced this new equipment! While some students had clearly had experience and were very excited about getting to play baseball in PE class, other students had clearly never even put on a glove before. My first instructions for them involved showing them how to put their hand in the glove and which hand to put it on. But once they figured it out, they were eager to join their more experienced classmates and learn from them! \r\n\r\nWe were able to enjoy the beautiful spring weather with classes outdoors on our field. The benefits from playing outside extend beyond simply developing skills and engaging in physical activity. Students' mental health also benefitted from getting out into the sunshine and enjoying the fresh air, running around in the grass on our field. Students were also able to work on their social skills as playing catch requires teamwork and communication. My favorite moment so far was when I got to play catch with one of our students who has some special needs. It can be challenging for him to engage in partner activities but he really enjoys using the new baseball gloves!
