My Students

I teach 17 wonderful second graders. Each day when my students walk into our building they are greeted by our school family. They feel a warm, caring environment from the moment they walk in the building until they leave. We are a public Title I elementary school located in an urban neighborhood in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and include many English language learners. Our campus has a very high level of economically disadvantaged elementary school students. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, and some students take home a backpack of food for the weekend. Our school closed on March 15th due to Coronavirus.

The last trimester of second grade is often full of hands-on activities for the students to enjoy while mastering our state standards.

Unfortunately, these opportunities have all but disappeared in the land of online learning. Families are struggling to provide access to online materials while balancing their own work and family commitments. The effort and love being put forth is heartwarming and I am so proud of my students and their families!

My Project

One of my students is in need of a printer. This printer will be used to print educational paper packets for the entire family. Our local high school is a food distribution site. Along with providing food for our families they are handing out paper packets for the families so they can learn at home. Unfortunately, many times there are not enough paper packets to hand out to families. Other times since they do not have enough copies they only hand out one packet provided for the entire family.

The family/parent I am requesting this printer for is a first responder.

She has told me many times she can not pick up paper packets due to her schedule and does not have a printer at home. She needs a printer so she can print packets at home for her children. Our school district provides a great link for all parents to print weekly packets at home if they can't pick up at our food distribtion site. I'd love to surprise the family with a printer so my second grade student and their siblings can keep on top of their studies. Being able to print their own paper packet and educational worksheets will lessen Moms' stress and keep these kids learning at home.
