This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The young students at this school come from all walks of life. Most of them come from lower-income families who have one-parent households or stay with their grandparents. The ages range from 14-18, which are freshmen to seniors.
At times it is a struggle to provide all of the necessities my students need.
It's harder for them, but that does not mean they are not capable. I want them to be able to experience the rigor just like any other student, without labeling.
These young men and women work hard on a daily basis keeping up with their classes throughout the year.
My Project
In my classroom the students are learning to write properly through different types of essays and creative writing. The kids love to see their writing posted and printed in black and white. Our school has 4-5 printers that the entire school uses and prints from and they are all located in one location.
The library does not like it when classes and students come in during class to print work as there are other classes going on at that time and it is a disruption/distraction.
Some of my students have to be escorted to and from places and cannot go to the library themselves to print their work. Having a printer in the classroom will allow my students to become more independent with this task.
