Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Teaching and promoting character values such as respect, empathy, kindness, fairness and responsibility can be challenging when you have to compete against messages students receive in the video games they play, the music they listen to, or the personal experiences they have to deal with.
We strongly believe that everyone regardless of race, color, creed, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, physical, emotional, mental, or academic challenges, should be treated with RESPECT.
We believe respect should be taught, practiced, and valued. Our students, who are in grades PreK-5th, come to school eager to learn about and demonstrate this and each monthly character education theme. We believe that as a community of students, teachers, administrators, and parents we can continue to develop a positive change at our school. We advocate maintaining a safe and supportive learning and educational environment that is free from harassment, intimidation, and/or bullying. It is our position that a school that adopts a "Respect For All, By All" lifestyle will be a school that gives each student the greatest opportunities to succeed and grow academically, intellectually, physically, morally, mentally, emotionally, and socially.
My Project
Having 1 color printer will help us promote our "Respect For All, By All" initiative. Students will be able to make posters to highlight the current monthly theme. Student work such as essays and poems will also be publicly displayed. When we have contests and events such as shows to help promote these values, the printer can be used to advertise this. We had a former student of our school that experienced painful bullying in middle and high school come and perform at our first Respect Show, "Stay Strong" this year. Many of the students and parents in attendance at the show were inspired to stay strong through difficult times. He will come back to perform again this year and the printer can be used to spread the news.
We also have a peer mediation program in our school. The printer can be used to display what mediation is and how and why students should use the program if they need help in resolving a problem with another student.
I strongly believe in the teaching and enriching of these character values.
Teaching students alternatives to violence and to show empathy and respect for one another will enhance our school culture and the community. If taught at an early age, our students will lead the way in making this positive change. The printer is one resource that will help us motivate and educate our students to be part of that change. You too can be part of that change.
