My students come from a poor neighborhood where there have been recent violent crimes committed near the school. Despite these obstacles, they come to school with an eagerness to learn and to help one another. They have been actively involved in learning and promoting character values such as respect, responsibility, and honesty. I helped launch an initiative at our school called 'Respect for All, By All' to address bullying and to strengthen students' personal character traits. We focus as a school on a character trait each month through discussions, literature, music and the arts, and we try to incorporate them throughout the curriculum. I teach character enrichment at my school which is a PreK-5th grade public school.
