My Students

I'm a full-time Music Teacher at a Title 1 elementary school in Brooklyn, NY. We are a new charter school with limited resources. My students come from various backgrounds and demographics and are passionate about music. They come to my classroom eager to learn, be creative, and play instruments.

I want to make sure I provide my students with a variety of activities that will encourage their creativity.

Some of our students are language learners and music helps them be fully included without being proficient in English. In addition to ENL students our special needs students also get an opportunity to express themselves through music.

My Project

Being able to print color materials for my students will make music centers and instruction more engaging. Since there are usually no textbooks or workbooks used in the music classroom, most concepts are being taught while using materials I create and print.

Students are more likely to learn in depth and reinforce new music concepts when engaging materials and manipulatives are used during instructions.

Teaching 6 different grade levels makes it challenging to create engaging materials for all students. Different concepts are being taught at different depths and therefore various levels of the same concepts are need.
