Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Diversity is our strength. Our school is a Level III school based upon 2016-2017 accountability data. Serving 816 students in the sixth through eighth grades, 63.8% of the population is economically disadvantaged. The population consists of 51% Hispanic, 20% White, 17% African American, 6% Asian and 3.8% Multi-Race non-Hispanic students.

Students are taught to interact with each other in a positive manner, respecting all students for their differences.

With great diversity in our classroom, it makes teaching and learning about culture very interesting. We learn to listen to each other, hear our differences not only in our heads but in our hearts. Students in my classroom come from many ethnic backgrounds. Respect is a word that is used a lot in our class. In our Spanish class, learning about culture is an important piece of our curriculum.

My Project

There is one copy machine in our school with over 800 students and 85 teachers in it! This makes it difficult to make copies when there is a teacher line to make copies every day. A teacher has to have spare time to wait in line to make copies or not make copies at all. Having a printer in the classroom will help me to use my time more efficiently instead of waiting in a line to make copies.

A classroom copy machine will allow me to make copies for students that cannot take notes.

I will also be able to print grades for students when asked and make copies of work for students when they need it. I will also have rapid access to making any kind of copy of student work or official documents with a printer in the classroom.

The school will not be able to provide ink or paper for the copy machine in my classroom. The copy machine, ink and paper will create a classroom equipped with the necessary tools to increase teacher time and allow for benefits of having work and grades copied regularly in my class for all students.
