Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most jobs that my students will have are not yet created. The jobs that they work with will likely involve using computers. This project will allow my students to develop their computer literacy while simultaneously enriching their historical knowledge. A win for them and a win for society.

I have an incredible group of young, college bound scholars.

Although my students come from a low, socioeconomic background, many have shown the determination to work hard regardless of their environmental conditions. For many of these students, it is either college or bust. Unfortunately, many students do not have the resources to use computers at home, and the only experience they have building their computer literacy is at a friend/relatives or at school.

My Project

Most of the classroom is designed around experiential, research based activities. For example, in an upcoming European Imperialism unit, the students will venture into the causes and consequences of Imperialism. While working in groups, the three netbooks would afford them the opportunity to read and interpret primary sources from that time period and incorporate this into their learning.

The students will be developing essential technology skills which ideally will expand way beyond their academic lives.

This project will allow the students to experience history in their own terms and through a medium that is most relatable to them. I thank you for your consideration and look forward towards using these resources in my classroom.
