My Students

How much are your memories worth? You can not put a price on them. My students can go months without interacting with one of their parents. They move often and leave behind friends and other family members. These videos can make those transitional times easier.

I teach on a military base.

The majority of our students live in base housing and have at least one parent in the military. My students are in second grade. They come with a wide range of abilities and experiences because of their military lifestyle. Adjustments can be overwhelming. They come in having left friends and family behind. At the same time mom or dad can be leaving for deployment or training. As a class they struggle when a classmate leaves and enjoy keeping in touch as pen pals or cyber buddies.

My Project

These camcorders will provide link between the students their friends and family. Students will be able to film each other and upload their videos. They will learn to upload and edit their videos. They will also be able to burn their own copies and transmit videos to their deployed family members. Students will learn about public speaking. They will learn to speak clearly and also how to use inflection in their speech. The cameras will allow students to create a lasting memory of second grade for themselves and their families. These videos will also be used to help students transition into our class. They will be a non-threatening way to expose them to their new class family and give them an opportunity to be immediately added to our room.

In addition to providing excellent technology instruction these cameras will help to provide my students with an immediate sense of belonging.

They will also allow students to stay connected to family members and keep their bond with them. It is so important for students to feel secure. I feel like these videos will help my students accomplish this. Students will create a souvenir for themselves and their families while easing the strain of being apart.
