Preventing Summer Slide

My Students

Our school is located in an urban neighborhood in which many families are financially disadvantaged. The students come from a variety of ethnicities.

As my students are beginning their academic career, they come eager to learn--it is so rewarding to see how much they grow during the school year!

However, during the summer break the "Summer Slide" often occurs. This term describes the slide backwards that many children make in reading and math skills over the summer due to lack of regular practice. This can be prevented by encouraging children to devote a small bit of time each day to keeping up skills and staying sharp.

My Project

By helping fund this project, you will help my students have a wonderful workbook to practice reading, math, and writing over the summer break!

I know that over the summer break, children actually do miss school, and that parents can find it challenging to keep their kids busy -- this project solves both problems, and provides educational activities for quality family time!

The kids will enjoy the wide variety of activities offered in this workbook. Parents will benefit as well by having a great resource that they can guide their children through. The Summer Bridge Workbook contains plenty of engaging activities to reinforce learning throughout the entire summer. There are even awards and stickers included for the parents to reinforce their child as they work through the book.

My hope is for generous donors and quick funding to bring these literacy materials and books to all of my kindergarten families.
