This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Conducting research is an essential part of a middle school language arts curriculum. While students are able to find information online about any topic, they struggle to find books in which to paraphrase, summarize, and cite in their research.

These biographies about American presidents and other people will show my students what valid, credible research looks like, and how they can use this research as examples in their own writing.

The depth of knowledge in these mentor texts is much richer than they can find in a simple engine search, allowing them to see examples of a well-explored topic.

These biographies also show students examples of primary and secondary sources, as well as how biographies, memoirs, and autobiographies differ, which is a skill they are still mastering. These final volumes will finish the presidential biographies.
