Every marking period I have my students get up in front of the class and give a little presentation. Even though this isn't a public speaking class, I feel that this skill is necessary as they are all seniors. In college, or at a job, they will be expected to speak in front of peers or colleagues. I feel that practice at this is not to be ignored.
The podium I had for years got broken during Covid when they removed most of the furniture from my classroom.
My students have told me that they would feel more comfortable having the podium to stand behind, to have a place for their papers, and even their hands when they don't know what to do with them.
With your help, my student can feel less exposed and be able to concentrate on the task at hand...giving an amazing presentation.
