Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from 20 different countries and represent 6 different languages. They come to the U.S. for a variety of reasons but in the classroom they come for one reason only, to learn. My students are some of the hardest working students in the building. They not only need to learn the content, but they also need to learn the English language as well.

This high school is a Title I school with the majority of students receiving free lunch, and many will be the first in their families to attend college.

I service students with a wide range of needs, from special education to literacy lessons for those who did not have a formal education in their home countries. They are open-minded and have embraced students from cultures other than their own. I am blown away by their open-mindedness and teamwork they show on a day to day basis.

My Project

My class has received a new surface pro and previously a document camera. This P

presentation cart is set up to allow me to stand beside my whiteboard and face the class as I present from either the SurfacePro or Document Camera.

Facing the students is beneficial because my students are English language learners, it is important for them to be able to see me speak so they can develop their English listening skills.

Another benefit of having this podium will help students with presentations by having them face their audience as they read their information. Having this podium will create a hub in the classroom where direct instruction can take place.
