This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 3-5 year olds with Autism and other special needs, including Speech and Language Impairment. My students' disabilities are moderate to severe and their learning is supported by the use of visuals, organization, and minimalism. This is a Title I school; 50% of my students are also English Language Learners and 100% of them are also eligible for free/reduced price lunch, meaning they come from low-income homes.

My students are kind, curious, and bright children who love to learn.

My Project

My students struggle with staying regulated, calm, and safe during the day. The pressure vest that weighs 4 pounds will help students stay self-regulated and focused. Heavy vests help children feel secure and calm so that they can stay self-contained with their hands to themselves. This vest will be worn for 20-30 minute increments, specially during recess time, when some children a prone to hitting, pushing, and other unsafe behavior.

The weighted blanket will also help children stay calm and self-regulated.

These blankets also help children feel secure and comfortable. When children are extra wiggly and prone to unsafe behavior, this blanket can be wrapped around their bodies or placed on their laps to help them regulate their bodies.
