Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 3-5 year olds with Autism and other special needs, including Speech and Language Impairment. My students' disabilities are moderate to severe and their learning is supported by the use of visuals, organization, and minimalism. This is a Title I school; 50% of my students are also English Language Learners and 100% of them are also eligible for free/reduced price lunch, meaning they come from low-income homes.

While most of my students do not speak in words yet, they are kind, curious, and bright children who love to learn.

My Project

Instruments, scarves and silly toobs will be used during circle time songs to promote gross and fine motor development, turn taking, and sharing of space and materials. My young students with special needs learn through music, repetition, and melody.

Play panels promote play opportunities for children by keeping them safe in smaller spaces.

Children learn to share space, toys, and materials, as well as practice language and communication skills.

The chewy tubes help calm teething children and also help them focus. My students tend to put most objects in their mouths and chewy tubes are a clean, safe and developmentally appropriate alternative.
