My Students

Remember what it was like to find a friend, share toys and happily take turns with them? Well, my students are ready to do this, but because of their special needs, they need very simple and structured games to practice these skills.

I teach a special day class for special needs preschool students.

My students are 3 to 5 years old and many of them are getting ready for kindergarten next year. They are finally starting to notice one another and want to play together...but because of their language delays, they are challenged to communicate with their friends.

My Project

I have chosen several easy to learn but still educational games that the students can learn to play. The "Crocodile Dentist" has an interesting surprise when you touch the wrong tooth...and I can use it during dentist week, too. The Snail's Pace Race, What Color is It? and Colorama are fun games that also work on teaching color and shape recognition. And every kid loves pizza, so Poppa's Pizza Pile-up is sure to be a favorite. At first, my students will need my help with the rules and turn taking, but I am hopeful that they will eventually be able to select and play the games by themselves.

I want to help my students learn life skills as they get older and transition on to "the big kid's school." By helping them make friends with their peers, I am providing an experience that all children should have, one that will enrich the rest of their lives.
