My students need basic art supplies to help build STEAM ideas into their daily lives. The items on our list are basic needs for any preschool classroom: paints, colored pencils, play dough and collage materials.
I teach Head Start/4K students in a high poverty school. My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous. They are eager learners and love to explore their world. They are always moving and learning through the interactive centers set up in the classroom.
These are the youngest students in our school and when you see their smiling faces in the morning you know they are also the most excited about being in school.
Each day is a new adventure and I'm so happy to be able to provide those adventures to them.
Having basic art supplies in our classroom will help my students expand their creativity and add the A to our STEAM materials. So many enjoyable sensory experiences happen while using these materials: squeezing, rolling and broad, sweeping strokes also help to strengthen large and small muscles as well as hand/eye coordination.
Your generous donation to our project will help low income Head Start students be able to explore and learn about their world and give them the start to becoming problem solvers.
Using the building kits will help to demonstrate cause and effect, create questioning skills and increase verbal skills in my students. Paints, play dough and collage materials will help students represent what they know about their world and express themselves while just having some good old fashioned fun. Play dough tools, brushes and art smocks will allow my students to explore new materials in different ways. The counting and comparing discovery can will give my students a fun way to explore numbers and math and the Alpha-bots work like a familiar toy while reinforcing letter identification. For many of my students this is the first time they will have the opportunity to explore with these types of materials in a safe kid friendly environment.
