Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Getting ready for the first day of school takes a great deal of planning, and I always begin early so I can create the best possible environment for my students. This will be my fourth year teaching Pre-K, and I am so excited to welcome my little learners and see all the growth the year will bring.

My goal is simple but meaningful: I want my students to fall in love with school from the very first day.

To help build excitement and routine, I plan to introduce my students to the Calendar Kids series. These books are a wonderful way to teach young children about the months, seasons, weather, and holidays in a fun, engaging way.

Organization and communication are also key to a successful year. The plastic two-pocket folders will serve as durable communication folders that travel back and forth between home and school all year long. Nameplates will help children begin recognizing and writing their names, while the owl pen grips will support proper pencil grasp.

One of the most meaningful parts of my classroom is building a sense of community. With a photo printer, I will be able to take pictures of my students and display them in magnetic picture pockets so children can learn each other’s names and feel connected. I will also use photos to label the classroom, helping students become independent as they learn where materials belong.

Hands-on learning is essential in Pre-K. The activity box will allow students to use their sense of touch to describe objects, building vocabulary and confidence. The “What Goes Together” game will help children make important connections and develop critical thinking skills.
