My Project

After stepping away from the role of classroom teacher for over two decades, I am in my first year of teaching Art to students in PreK through grade 5. I am working diligently to build up resources that teach the youngest learners about the elements and principles of art.

Preschoolers explore building and sculpting concepts through their work with Play-Doh, while they build their hand strength, critical in prewriting and fine motor development.

These students are fun, energetic lovers of learning. Their curiosity is avid, admirable, and inspiring. They attend a suburban public school district in the western part of the state. All students receive free breakfast and lunch and many come from families who are considered at poverty level.

The students in the twenty-three classrooms I work in are from many different countries; this diversity is embraced and honored.

Many of my students speak more than one language. Others have been identified as learners with special academic, communication, social, and emotional needs. These dynamic students bring their skills and stories to art class each day. They spend their time thoughtfully and creatively busy: thinking, reasoning, collaborating, listening, talking, and problem solving, and creating.
