My students need unit blocks to support their learning. As the children play with these blocks they will learn to think creatively, collaborate, solve problems, and measure.

My Students
This public school in Florida is a blended preschool classroom with 17 students. My students come from many backgrounds and speak multiple languages including Arabic and Spanish. My students also have varying abilities with a mix of general education students and students with special needs.
This diverse group of four year olds are incredibly enthusiastic about learning.
Like all young children, they learn best through hands on play with peers and teachers. Through play in the different centers, the children form relationships, grow, and learn.
My Project
These unit blocks are truly amazing toys. Since there are so many blocks included, it allows many children to build together and in the process develop their ability to interact with peers, use language to communicate, and solve social problems. Since they are plain wood they also force the children to think creatively and use the blocks to represent something (ex: use a block as a bed for a doll or a door to a zoo).
Unit blocks are a great way to teach and reinforce mathematical and science objectives.
Through building with teachers and peers students use and learn prepositions and measurement language (ex: "Make it longer" or "They need to be the same height. Put another block on top."). It also gives the children a chance to engage in basic engineering. They come up with an idea and have to find a way to build it. As they learn how to make their creations stand up to gravity and energetic classmates they problem solve, think creatively, and collaborate with peers.
These blocks are a fantastic learning tool that I'd like my students to experience.
