This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students know that education is the key that unlocks the door to a great future. Unfortunately, in the beginning of the school year, students do not come to school prepared because their parents do not have funds to purchase school supplies.

My students are resilient individuals who refuse to let their daily struggles at home interfere with their education.

My school is located in Newark, NJ. My school services students that live in a local housing project. My students on a daily basis witness violent events from their window and have shared an experience of losing a loved one from violence. Despite all of the negativity they are faced with, my students still come to school ready to learn.

My Project

The materials that I am requesting will allow my students to be prepared in the beginning months of school. They will not fear the chance of embarrassment because they do not have the proper school supplies, nor will my students feel as if they cannot complete assignments because they do not have pencils and crayons. My students will also have folders to store their writing pieces and other important papers.

There's nothing like the smell of brand new school supplies.

I want my students to experience this moment. My students will not have anxiety because they do not have the essential supplies that they need for everyday use in the classroom. All of my students will be mentally as well as physically prepared for the school day.
