Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a school that is in a low-income neighborhood. Currently, around 86% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches, and many students still go hungry when they are not in school. Our staff works very hard to provide our students with everything they need to help create a safe and healthy environment. We often have many difficulties finding resources for the many needs of our students.

With our students coming from a challenging background, it is always a pleasure to see them overcome their challenges and become successful throughout the year.We also have a high English Language Learners population at our school with 73% of our students coming from a Hispanic background.

This adds another level of challenges for these students. Our students are enthusiastic to come to school, and with the help of our staff, our school has definitely become one big family.

My Project

We have a high ELL population at our school. Reading and writing can be more difficult and less enjoyable for these students. Adding more games and center activities to these subjects will allow students to have a fun and safe learning environment. Finger puppets will allow distracted students to follow along when reading in a small group. Sequencing activities allow students to practice writing skills along with learning the plot of a story.

Students work hard and want to succeed.

I have an amazing group of students who are excited to learn. If we give them these tools there is no limit to what they can achieve!
