This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Harlan Cohen's "The Naked Roommate: And 107 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College" is an invaluable resource for AVID seniors preparing for college. The book delves into dorm life, sharing dos and don'ts and addressing everyday dramas that arise when living with roommates. AVID seniors will learn about finding friends, both socially and academically. Cohen offers tips on attending classes, studying effectively, and achieving academic success. Cohen addresses the realities of college parties, including safety, alcohol, and social dynamics. The book covers financial aspects such as grants, loans, and managing loose change. AVID seniors will discover what to expect beyond the glossy promotional materials. We will practice our critical reading and problem-solving skills as we read through the book. As students engage with the book, we will discuss the college experience and allow them to start preparing for their freshman year.
