Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are ready to learn! I teach in an English Immersion Pre-K class, and most of my students are in school for the very first time.
Almost all of my students speak a language other than English at home, which makes our classroom wonderfully diverse.
I believe that a student's zip code shouldn't dictate the quality of their education, and I know that my students deserve the best start possible in school. My students are learning new vocabulary words every day, and all of my students learn best through hands-on experiences. Four-year-olds love to touch, move, and explore, and I need more resources for my students to explore their world.
My Project
My students love to build! I am constantly amazed at the great structures my students create! When my students build, they practice 21st-century skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. My students are learning about physics by creating towers, exploring physical science by creating ramps, and practicing teamwork, sharing, and problem-solving skills. These Tegu blocks are an amazing tool for building and will help my students learn even more!
My students learn academic concepts while building!
We integrate building activities into each of our thematic and academic units, and my students have created cities, houses, cars, laundromats, rocketships, and more. We add magnet letters and student names, props, and more for students to practice storytelling.
Many of my students haven't ever had access to a wide variety of building materials, and they are fascinated by different ways to build and construct. These Tegu blocks will help my students continue to practice building and will create more engagement and learning opportunities!
