Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students just turned three years old. I am piloting a three-year-old half-day program in an inner-city low-income school.
The children are excited and ready to learn.
Most of the students I serve are English Language Learners and will be in a Bilingual Program.
The mission of this program is to teach children English and sustain their Spanish speaking skills. By starting early, this will give them a head start on their educational journey. This will enable them to have many opportunities in their futures, but also facilitate educational success.
My Project
My three year old students look forward to read alouds every day. They enjoy the variety of books that our curriculum provides, but especially the books that I check out from the public library. I try my best to check out books that connect to the theme we are studying that are both fiction and non-fiction.
These books, including titles such as Helping Hands Bilingual Book Set, and My First Bilingual Board Book Set not only provide a wonderful experience, but enhance and increase vocabulary and literacy skills.
The vocabulary that they hear in these books is rich. I have had many of my students ask what a word means. This opportunity provides for more vocabulary rich conversations!
