My students are four and five years of age. Most have never attended any type of childcare setting. The program serves children from low income and military families. So, I come in contact with families coming from different walks of life. The program provides these children with the opportunity to learn through play in a safe engaging environment. These preschoolers come to school ready to explore and learn new skills. They leave my class equipped with the skills they need to be successful in kindergarten and beyond.
My students in Prek come from culturally different backgrounds. So, as their teacher, I would like to create meaningful experiences for them. When play is meaningful, students learn about themselves, others, and the world around them. The students will be able to make connections between their home environment and school environment to foster the need and love of learning. The students will be able to explore and show inventiveness in their play and the world around them. Constructive, purposeful play supports and drives learning. Giving students the hands-on experience will give them a chance to problem solve during play.
