Practicing Math and Critical Thinking Skills Through Fun & Teamwork!
Help me give my students the materials they need to practice automaticity in their math facts and to use Legos and Magna-Tiles to build their critical thinking and teamwork skills!
Hello! I teach at an elementary school on a Native American reservation, the previous five years were in Kindergarten and this year will be my first in 4th grade. The majority of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch, live in a low-income based community and face many unique challenges.
Creating a welcoming and supportive classroom where my students feel safe, where they will thrive, and find the confidence in themselves are my top priorities.
Everyday I get a chance to help my students grow in their academics, their social skills, and independence. As I start a year in a new grade, I will be learning from them just as much as they will be from me. I look forward to a year full of fun, laughter, and learning!
My Project
My 4th graders will use these games to work on their automaticity of basic math facts, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The best part about using various games to practice these skills is they look forward to playing them! Dominoes, board games, etc...are a great way to keep them engaged and learning.
What better way to practice basic math facts and critical thinking skills than through games and STEM challenges?
My students will be using the Legos and Magna-Tiles to apply critical thinking skills by completing various building challenges involving teamwork, creativity, and a little touch of competition. They will use the storage drawers to easily access these materials at their convenience and to exercise responsibility of taking care of these brand new resources.
