These practice mutes provide a dampened sound when practicing the trombone. Additionally, they also will provide resistance to blow through, requiring more air to produce sound.
These two benefits help to create a better trombone player.
By allowing them to practice quietly at home they are able to practice in any living space. More air is always a good thing when playing a musical instrument. The resistance from these mutes force the player to push more air through their horn. Once removed players will be using more air producing a better sound.
