My super second graders are from an urban area in Massachusetts. Our classroom is made up of various cultural backgrounds, home languages, family structures, learning styles and abilities. Many of these students come from high poverty neighborhoods and school is where many of their needs are met academically, socially and emotionally.
My students enjoy working in a number of different math and literacy based centers.
This allows them to learn in various spots around the classroom with a variety of materiala instead of remaining in their seats with pencil and paper. This inspires me to always be looking for news ways to spark their interest and curiosity.
Technology is such a big part of everyday life. It's hard to remember a time when we weren't using the internet. Not only can it be used as a social tool it can be a powerful learning tool. Students in my class use various online resources to practice important math and literacy skills.
However, with only 2 desktop student computers and the laptop carts being used for standardized testing multiple times a year it is challenging to provide consistent practice to all of my students.
These 4 chrome books will allow me to have a minimum of 6 students at a time working on computers practicing their skills and researching new topics. Students struggling with math and reading will have more consistent practice using programs targeting their needs. Not to mention our continent museum posters and presentations could be further enhanced with live pictures and videos that students research with partners.
