Mr. O'Brien from Providence RI is requesting Sports & Exercise Equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Equipment for the upcoming soccer season. We would like a net to help us improve our shooting and some soccer balls and items like the poles and hurdles to help with agility.
At my school, the average school day is much more than simply an 8 am-3 pm day. Some Students show up as early as 7:30 am for breakfast and may stay till as late as 5 pm or 6 pm, participating in a variety of after-school activities. With a population where 96% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch, students cherish the chance for any extra-curricular opportunities, with athletics being no exception. Thankfully, we have a faculty and staff that recognize this and are very supportive in running these programs.
For some students, physical education class and after-school athletic programs are their only chance to improve their physical fitness and wellness.
As a physical education teacher and coach, it's very important to me to encourage them to explore different sports and lifelong activities to help keep them active. By providing them with these different opportunities, I hope that they can continue to pursue the activities they enjoy after middle school.
Thankfully the administration at our school is very passionate and shares this philosophy. They are great advocates of our students and support all of our students, clubs, and athletic teams. They help facilitate the teams and assist with supervision as well.
Our girls soccer team has been in the championship game the past two years, winning last year and finishing as runners up this season. Our Boys team is a team that was very young last season, but made great improvements and is also looking forward to their season. Both teams are very committed to improving and work hard in practice to do so.
Despite all their successes, one of our biggest challenges is resources when it comes to practicing.
We practice on a baseball field as it's the only available field, which is fine, it just simply lacks the equipment for us to train with. By adding some appropriate equipment to the field, we will be able to improve our skills not only this year, but for years down the road as well.
My students would greatly benefit from having a goal to work on their shooting. By providing them with a target, they can further their shooting abilities and work on not only shooting for power, but for placement and accuracy as well. The defensive mannequin will help further their accuracy by giving them an obstacle to avoid when shooting. The rebounder net and soccer balls will be a great addition to our training sessions also as they will help students improve their touches and control, and provide them flexibility to work either individually or in groups.
The other resources will be great to help students improve and work on their speed and agility. The training poles, which will be used to design a course for students to move through, not only improving agility but also helping them train their muscles to reduce injury from vertical and lateral movements. The Sled will couple nicely with the agility training to help students work on explosive speed and acceleration.
