Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The players on my team are a diverse group of high-schoolers. They come from various racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are all good kids who come to school each and every day for new opportunities to learn and improve. After a long day of learning, these players dedicate themselves to playing on our school soccer team during the Fall season. One of the goals of the soccer program is to practice regularly with the proper gear to improve our play and performances. Despite their enthusiasm for soccer, our high school lacks certain sports supplies necessary to grow and improve as a soccer team. Our high school is a 9-12th-grade school with over 600 students.
Most of the players on the soccer team come from soccer families.
Some have played in other leagues and some come to play organized soccer for the first time. They have practiced and played their whole lives, but many lack the financial means to sport the proper clothing and gear required by our league to field a well-practiced and uniformed team.
My Project
The supplies and gear in this project will help our team by properly equipping the players to play in games. Our league requires blue and white socks for home and away games which are not provided to our players by the school. Therefore, the players have to play with old socks with holes in them or possibly not be able to play because they can not afford the socks required to step on the pitch.
Many of these requirements set by the league force our players to spend money they do not have for supplies other teams are afforded by their schools.
Sports tape used to hold up shin guards has to be the same color as the socks and many of our players lose shin guards in games because they don’t have the tape. Finally, practice shirts bring unity and camaraderie that makes players feel like they are part of a special program. Some players won’t be embarrassed about wearing their old unwashed shirts if they have all the same shirts they must wear at practices.
