The students in my classroom are a diverse group of eighth graders. They come from various racial and socio-economic backgrounds. They are all good kids who come to school each and every day for new opportunities to learn and improve. Despite their enthusiasm, our middle school still lacks the tools and supplies necessary to educate them in today's world. Our middle school is a 6-8th grade school with over 1,000 students. Even though there are about 25 computers for every 100 students in each cluster, it is clearly not enough. The computers must be shared by all the teachers and many lessons lack the opportunity to delve into American History or individuals because the computers were signed out by another teacher that day. Due to these restraints, many of our students are actually lacking 21st century technology skills that would be expected of students. Many struggle with word processors, Internet research, and critical thinking using technology.
