Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our orchestra students truly are a special group of kids! Many students come from low-income families and have many other responsibilities at home. When they come to school, they find their time in orchestra to be a safe space; a time when they can relax and enjoy creating and performing music. Many families would not be able to afford an instrument and music lessons or may not have the time to bring students to lessons. At school, they are given an instrument to use throughout the year at no cost to the families. Students practice daily in class and many also practice in the mornings or during lunch. In order to provide our students with the best program possible, we need to purchase new supplies and accessories that will help them succeed in class.

My Project

Most students practice at school in the mornings or during their lunch hour. The more practice aids and accessories I have, the more they can learn to self-correct their mistakes. The metronomes and bow hold helpers will help them learn correct posture and rhythms on their own. The students also need new rosin and bows to replace old and broken parts.

My advanced orchestra is playing West Side Story for their final concert and mutes should be used during a specific section to help make the sound calm and peaceful.

We currently do not have any mutes available.
