My Project

My students rely on technology every single day to communicate, learn, and access their world. Many of my students are autistic and use AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) devices, along with iPads and classroom technology, as essential tools for both communication and instruction.

In our classroom, these devices are not optional, they are how my students express their needs, participate in lessons, and build independence.

To support this, my goal is to create a classroom environment that is structured, accessible, and promotes independence.

The portable charging station will give students a safe, organized space to store and charge their devices. Instead of relying on adults, students will be able to independently plug in and manage their devices, building confidence and daily living skills. Predictable systems like this are critical for my students, as they thrive on routine and consistency.

The power tower will allow multiple devices to be charged efficiently, ensuring that AAC devices, iPads, and classroom technology are always ready when students need them. This reduces downtime and prevents interruptions in communication and learning.

As we transition from Chromebooks to iPads to better support fine motor skills and accessibility, Bluetooth headphones are essential. Since new iPads do not have headphone jacks, these headphones allow students to access audio supports, communication apps, and instructional content.

By supporting access to charged, ready to use devices, this project removes barriers and allows my students to fully participate in their learning. Most importantly, it helps them build independence, confidence, and the ability to navigate their world using the tools they rely on every day.
