My students are from a small community with high expectations but limited resources. Students are expected to look beyond the classroom and into the world to develop solutions to everyday problems. Students take on this challenge with rigor and purpose developing projects that address issues in their families, communities, state, and nation. They are the solution seekers of the future and deserve all the support they can get.
I endeavor to make learning experiences in the classroom both enjoyable and memorable.
By providing students with the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom, developing partnerships with community stakeholders, I can provide the best learning environment possible. Such experiences not only improve the livelihood of the students themselves, but also improve their families and the community in which they live.
My students will be completing a collaborative project to develop a campaign recruiting members for our student led organization, FCCLA. FCCLA is an national organization ingrained into the curriculum of Family and Consumer Sciences. Students will be using the FCCLA planning process, similar to the Engineering Design Process, to design a hot air balloon symbolizing the benefits of membership.
By utilizing the Planning Process, students will begin to form teams that thrive on critical thinking and innovation.
As an introduction to classroom procedures and expectations, this project will invite students to think beyond their limitations. I hope to inspire them to fly high, and to take their learning beyond the classroom.
