My Students

I have the privilege of teaching at a *new* elementary school in Washington, D.C. for the 2018-19 school year. I will be shifting to a third-grade position, where we will be focused on our writing skills and STEM integration. I am excited to meet my new community and truly phenomenal students. I have no doubt my new class will come to school each morning full of energy, questions, and wonder.

My new school is a newly appointed STEM school, and I am working with the STEM coordinator to amp up the classroom environment and bring our 3rd grade units to life.

My Project

One of our third grade units is overcoming adversity, and the powerful lessons we can learn from those who have come and struggled before us. We need six copies of each book for small group reading.

Having sets of guided reading/book club books available about strong, brave, and outstanding women will only enhance my students understanding of what it truly means to overcome and thrive.

These books will give my students a variety of examples of adversity that women have faced, and show what is capable through perseverance. In a class of 24, 18 of my students are female. My hope is these books are empowering and inspiring.
