My Students

Students at OPA are wonderful! The school works hard to provide unique opportunities for them such as a running program, robotics, yoga, book clubs, and LEGO clubs. Our school is title one which means that most of our students come from low-income households. Many cannot afford basic needs, let alone music lessons! As a new teacher, I desire to set up a stimulating classroom and add my talents and strengths to the school and provide my students with music!

My Project

I want to use piano music during transitions and at the end of the day during clean-up. For example, as soon as they hear “Spinning Song” they know it is time to clean up the floor, put away materials, and get ready to go home. Songs also add to lessons and help kids remember what they learn. Music influences mood and the environment. If they are hyper and need time to calm down, I can turn off the lights, have them rest their heads, and play moonlight sonata! Finally, kids can learn to play the piano with brief lessons after school!
