Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students deserve access to high-quality materials that support meaningful, hands-on learning, but right now our math closet is running on empty. A math closet is where teachers go to find manipulatives and tools that bring math to life—items like fraction tiles, algebra tiles, geometric solids, rulers, and graphing materials. These resources help students move from abstract thinking to concrete understanding by allowing them to build, model, and visualize concepts. Instead of memorizing procedures, students can truly see how math works. This is especially important for students who need hands-on, visual learning, including multilingual learners and those who struggle with traditional instruction. However, since the opening of our campus, these materials have not been consistently restocked. Teachers are often left using broken, damaged, or incomplete items—or doing without entirely.

This project aims to restock our math closet with clean, functional, and complete materials so every classroom has what it needs to support all learners.

Our goal is to increase engagement, strengthen conceptual understanding, and ensure equitable access to quality resources. As a Title I campus, our students are resilient, hardworking, and eager to learn. They show up every day ready to grow, even when resources are limited. What makes them special is their perseverance and determination to succeed. With the right tools, we can match their effort with meaningful learning experiences that build confidence and deepen understanding. Investing in our math closet is an investment in students who are capable, motivated, and deserving of every opportunity to succeed.
