Help me give my students post-its, poster paper, and some cleaning supplies (disinfectant wipes) so that we can make amazing posters, and share amazing ideas as we review for the Regents in the coming months.
My students are a rainbow of cultural and socioeconomic diversity in a rich urban environment. They are both artistically and academically motivated in their learning as they attend an arts/performing arts high school in which they have specific majors of study in the arts. They are also college-oriented and so choose rigorous preparatory coursework such as College Board-level Advanced Placement classes. They also enjoy expressing their knowledge and their art through classroom discussions and debates, group work, and hands-on experiments and projects.
My Project
My classroom is social, collaborative, and friendly. The ways I engage students are in all walks of learning: visual, kinesthetic, student to student, and group focused.
All of the supplies shown will help the class inquiry and develop knowledge for themselves.
When students create their own posters, talk to each other, make rumors, share their wonders and wishes through their post-its, they find ways to own the knowledge in ways that only students can.
In our most recent unit, students were able to become experts with their own posters, read and share as a result of their expertise, and become embodied owners of their own knowledge and their own products. The posters, post-its, and even the wipes (which are used for our small white boards) are all useful and helpful in this process.
