My third graders come to school every day because they know it is a safe place where someone will protect and care about them. Ninety percent of the students attending my school qualify to receive free or reduced-price lunch. They come from broken families or parents who work multiple jobs just to pay rent. It is hard for them to continue their learning at home because parents are working hard to make ends meet, or they simply don't have any materials to work with. Due to this fact, many of them are below grade level and struggling to get caught up.
My Project
This year I want my third graders to know just how important hard work, growth mindset, and kindness are in school! In order to do that, I want to recognize my students, not only in the classroom, but also at home. I want parents to truly see just how hard their student is working at school.
Whether it's learning a new math fact, reading a book, or helping out a friend, I want my students to be recognized, appreciated, and applauded!
With the materials requested, I will be creating car/window tags and keychains for my students. Both the car tags and keychains will recognize what the student accomplished or improved upon. They will then be able to take the tag or keychain home so a parent can hang it in their car or on a window. With these recognitions, I know students will be even more motivated to continue their learning and growing in class!
