Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

This school is a middle city school with students from many different economic and cultural backgrounds.
My students are asked to provide supplies that might be financially hard for them to get. Our school is a Title I school, and every donation goes a long way. Our students are driven to always do their best, but they struggle. They need financial and emotional support from their community to help them meet their true potential.
My Project
This project is so straight forward its just plain silly. I work at a low income school, the basics are barely provided. When I started a few years ago I realized that by adding that extra bit of care and attention, my class participation, grades and enjoyment skyrocketed. I am asking for a variety of items like candy, tickets and supplies including toner, staples, color pens.
Have you ever been in a class that was hard, you needed some external motivation to keep going, I sure have.
My students go crazy for the chance to earn tickets, therefore earning dumdums and smarties (they love the irony as well). They are much more motivated to participate when they know it will increase the possibility of having some sort of reward (hence the tickets). This year my students are saving all their tickets for big rewards like teacher buys you lunch... I'm running out of tickets fast even when I recycle them.
I need staples, I know its something that is easily accessible but my students use the stapler to keep their work together. My principal recently commented on how wonderful my student's journal looked, that was because of the color pens I have been trying to keep stocked (6 sets of pens for 100 students only last so long). I need also printer ink to continue to print off work for them and lamination sheets to protect their best work or task cards.
