This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My student are 3 and 4 years old at the start of the school year. Many of them do not speak English, yet they all are very curious, energetic and eager learners. The students are beginning to recognize letters, numbers and shapes and actively engage in a variety of learning centers to meet their individual needs and our curriculum goals. For many of theses students, this is their first experience with school.

Portfolios are a way in which the students can manage and observe their progress throughout the year.

It helps them to see how much they have learned and progressed in writing, numeracy and literacy skills.

My Project

Portfolios are used for students to organize projects and activities that help them visually see their own individual growth. Several samples of the students work are placed in the portfolio on a weekly basis and the students can see how they have improved their writing skills, letter and word recognition and math skills such as number, shape and color recognition. Photos of an activity maybe included in the portfolio as well. Students can view their work and see how they have progressed throughout the year and how much they have learned and improved individually. The ability to view a sample of their work, such as a cutting or handwriting sample from December to March, allows the student to visually see their growth. Portfolios help students organize their projects and feel positive about learning and growing in school !
