Our students are extremely creative and expressive. They have so much to say about their lives and the world we live in, but many of them have had very limited exposure to the arts. Our school is in its second year of operation and is launching an art program for the first time! Our public charter high school is a neighborhood school that accepts students through a lottery (West Philadelphia).
The art room is an inclusive environment where students of all levels and backgrounds work together to create beautiful and meaningful artwork.
Students tell me all the time how much art class helps them relax from their stressful schedules. The artwork that students create not only makes them feel good; it is celebrated by the entire school community. Students love showcasing their artwork for everyone to see.
My Project
This is the inaugural year for our art program and we need drawing boards so students have functional workspaces! We are sharing a classroom with other subjects and currently the desks are too small for most of our projects. Portable drawing boards give students flexibilty to make art anywhere so their creativity is unbounded. Our school is located near a huge historic park where we would have unlimited options for art en plein air! A classroom set of drawing boards would allow us to start the school year off strong with an authentic art experience. The drawing boards would also be a staple of the art program, serving in many settings for years to come.
